Conventions and Codes

Conventions –

·         Makes something we expect to see in a particular genre.

·         E.g. Western (you expect to see guns, cowboys, horses, tumbleweed, and so on).

 

Codes - 

·         Encoding of text

·         Audience decodes text for it to make sense.

·         How the filmmaker is using technical elements.

·         Character/narrative/technical codes, to encode a text with meaning.
